KINGSLAND TO SHINE A LIGHT ON PANCREATIC CANCER THIS NOVEMBER

November is a month of empowerment, education and inspiration for communities far and wide who have been touched by pancreatic cancer. The City of Kingsland is participating in this national campaign to raise public awareness of the risks and symptoms of pancreatic cancer. For the month of November, Kingsland city officials will light City Hall in purple-colored lights and display purple bows on lamp posts in the downtown area to increase public awareness and education of this very serious disease.

Pancreatic cancer has the highest mortality rate of all major cancers. It is currently the 3rd leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States after lung and colon. In 2022 an estimated 62,210 Americans (32,970 men and 29,240 women) will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the U.S., and more than 49,830 (25,970 men and 23,860 women) will die from the disease. Pancreatic cancer accounts for about 3% of all cancers in the US and about 7% of all cancer deaths. Early detection helps save lives. Learn & share the facts, symptoms and risk factors of pancreatic cancer to help with early detection and motivate healthy life choices.

World Pancreatic Cancer Day, recognized on Nov 17, 2022, is a global day of action that gives everyone a unique opportunity to make sure their voices are heard and come together to help raise awareness for this disease. In support of World Pancreatic Cancer Day or to honor of a loved one, residents are encouraged to wear purple, share the facts about pancreatic cancer on social media or share personal stories to make a lasting impact.
