Continuity of Critical Services to the Community

Kingsland, GA – On December 7, 2021, the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency announced the City of Kingsland was approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency for a Hazard Mitigation Grant Program award. The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) provides grants to states and local governments to implement long term hazard mitigation measures after a major disaster declaration.

This grant, designated HMGP 4338-0016, will be used to purchase and install one (1) fixed generator and (13) thirteen portable generators for the City of Kingsland to ensure continuity of critical services to the community. The total approved cost is $517,373 with a federal share of $388,030, state share of $51,737, and a local share of $77,606.

Additionally, the City of Kingsland has been awarded subrecipient management costs to administer this project in the amount of $3,521.28. Subrecipient management costs are not included in the total cost above and local match is not required.

"Hurricane Irma revealed a number of sewer and drainage issues in many areas of the city. Since that time, the City of Kingsland has been focused on securing funding that would help ensure continuity of critical services. We are pleased to announce this award as a significant step toward reducing future risk to property from severe natural hazards,” stated Kingsland Mayor DR. Grayson Day. “We are extremely thankful for efforts and hard work by the City Manager and staff in securing these much needed funds".
