KINGSLAND IMPLEMENTS CHANGES IN REGULAR OPERATIONS IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19 CRISIS

 

KINGSLAND, GA–May 21, 2020 - On March 16, 2020, Kingsland Mayor Day issued a Precautionary Declaration of Public Health Emergency. With this declaration, the City of Kingsland is changing its regular operations in an effort to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19.

City of Kingsland Holds Virtual Public Meetings: Governor Kemp signed an executive order requiring all Georgia residents and visitors to limit social interaction. In compliance with this order, the Kingsland Council has closed the council chambers to the public. All public meetings, including City Council meeting, Planning & Zoning meeting, and Authority meetings, will proceed as scheduled via audio conference unless otherwise noted in advance. A virtual chat feature will allow public comment. For those who wish to participate, remote access to public meetings will be accessible via WebEx. Meeting links, agenda, and information packets will be posted prior to each meeting on the City’s website at www.kingslandgeorgia.com. Those who wish to address City Council or provide input during any public meeting will be able to do so via chat utilizing the WebEx interface. Please log-on at least five minutes in advance of the scheduled meeting times so that your comments can be queued. The calendar for all public meetings, meeting agendas and minutes can be found online here. Facility & Buildings Access: The City of Kingsland will resume limited operations for all buildings and departments effective Monday, May 4, 2020. As we are able to implement mitigation efforts for public facing locations, we will begin opening all areas to the public with precautions in place. Some locations will experience a delay in opening while we install additional mitigation and safety equipment. Everyone entering a public building should practice physical distancing, keeping 6 feet between themselves and others. Additionally, anyone showing symptoms of COVID-19 is prohibited from entering any public building. Part of the re-opening effort includes daily pre-work screening of all city employees. All travel and non-essential meetings are suspended in an effort to reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus. For additional information, call 912-729-5613 or visit www.kingslandgeorgia.com.

Fire Department: The Kingsland Fire Department will continue normal operations. As a safety measure, all public programs will be suspended until further notice. To request a public safety report, contact the Kingsland Fire Department at 912-729-8270. In case of an emergency, call 911. Municipal Court: The Municipal Court offices are open and all staff is working and available if you should have questions or need further assistance. You may contact the court staff by calling 912-729-5613 during regular business hours.

Several court dates have been rescheduled and notices have been mailed to the address on your citation. If you have any questions regarding your case, please call the Clerk’s Office at 912-729-5613.

  • April 1 has been rescheduled to Monday, June 15 at 9:00 AM
  • April 13 has been rescheduled to Monday, July 13 at 9:00 AM
  • April 15 has been rescheduled to Monday, June 22 at 9:00 AM
  • May 6 has been rescheduled to Wednesday, July 22 at 9:00 AM
  • May 13 has been rescheduled to Wednesday, July 29 at 9:00 AM
  • June 3 has been rescheduled to Wednesday, August 19 at 9:00 AM
  • June 10 has been rescheduled to Wednesday, August 26 at 9:00 AM

NEW COURT PROCEDURES

In response to the threat posed by the COVID-19 virus, Kingsland Municipal Court has implemented changes to court hearing procedures. Please be advised of the following:

  • We STRONGLY encourage you to wear a mask
  • Please be patient with wait times as we can only allow 13 people at a time in the building
  • Always maintain 6ft of distance apart
  • Please sanitize hands upon entry and exit of the building
  • Court bailiffs will be using temperature scanners to ensure that defendants with temperatures higher than the CDC guidelines will not be allowed in the courthouse
  • Any defendant who is ill will not be permitted to enter the court building and their case will be rescheduled

If you have already paid your citation and if your appearance is not mandatory, you do not need to come to court. If you wish to dispute the violation, it is your right to appear in court. However, for many traffic violations, appearance is not required, and most can be paid in lieu of appearance. Our payment options are:

If you are not sure whether you must appear for court, contact the Clerk’s office at 912-729-5613. Also, contact the Clerk’s office if any of the following apply to you so that arrangements can be made:

  1. If you plan on pleading NOT GUILTY and want a bench trial date
  2. If you need an interpreter

Planning Department: The planning department will be operating fully staffed and will allow limited public access to our office. No more than one person from the public will be allowed in the lobby at any time and must keep a social distance of 6 ft. from any person. If you are running a fever or have any symptoms related to COVID 19, please do not enter the office. If questions or business that can be handled by phone or email, we encourage the public to use those avenues. Any permit or application payment will continue to be made at the Municipal Service Building by drop box, phone, or in person. Police Department: In order to maintain an operational and healthy police force, the department will be altering some of the day-to-day activities. All employees will be at work and officers will be carrying out normal patrols. The Kingsland Police Department offices are open to the public with no more than 2 citizens will be allowed in the lobby at a time. Services including fingerprinting, employment background checks, and VIN Inspections will be offered but we request that individuals needing these services call the Kingsland Police Department at 912-729-8254 and make an appointment. To obtain a report for an automobile crash, go online to www.buycrash.com. To file a report, call 911. During this time, officers have been instructed to continue with limited casual interactions with the public and to avoid certain courtesies such as shaking of hands. Additionally, certain non-emergency calls will be done by phone when no crime is in process and where no evidence can be obtained, such as misdemeanor thefts, incidents of fraud, medical calls, custody disputes, and civil disputes. Staff will wear appropriate personal protective equipment when dealing with the public including gloves and face masks. These modifications are temporary and are intended to only last the duration of the current crisis. Additional information about the Police Department is available at www.kingslandgeorgia.com

Water Utility Bills: The Municipal Services Building (located at 105 West William Avenue) is open to the public. Due to social distancing requirements, number of customers will be limited to 4 at a time. Foot traffic will be one directional entering the building from the north side and exiting on the south side (William Ave). The drive-thru service at the Kingsland Welcome Center located at 1190 Boone Ave will be temporarily open to accept water bill payments only. Drive-thru Hours: Monday - Friday from 8:00AM - 12:30PM and 1:30PM - 4:00PM (Closed daily from 12:30PM - 1:30PM).

Due to the concerns we are currently facing with COVID-19, utility customers are encouraged to utilize the online payment center and phone payment options. Kingsland utility payments can be made online at http://www.municipalonlinepayments.com/kingslandga or by calling 1-866-231-1537. All city payments may continue to be placed in drop boxes located at the Kingsland Welcome Center and the Kingsland Municipal Services, which has two payment drop boxes (one on the south side of the building on William Ave and another on the north side of the building). Applicable penalties will resume beginning May 21, 2020 and disconnects will resume beginning June 8, 2020. For additional information, call 912-729-8233 or visit www.kingslandgeorgia.com.

Welcome Center: In support of social distancing efforts, the Kingsland Welcome Center will be closed to the public until further notice. Welcome Center staff is available to answer questions and provide assistance by calling 912-729-5999 or emailing info@VisitKingsland.com.
