COVID-19_MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR_KingslandGeorgia

Message from the Mayor:  COVID-19 Update for March 24, 2020

Citizens of Kingsland,

As part of an ongoing emergency plan, constructed to diminish the possible effects of the COVID-19 virus and its spread among our citizens, the Camden County Emergency Management Team enacted further restrictions on local business and restaurants today. While we all understand the financial and economic hardships this can create, the overwhelming importance of our shared health, safety, and welfare was paramount in this decision.

We hope that our local businesses and restaurants can use the internet / phone order methods with curbside pickup and delivery to continue as much of their operations while staying compliant with local, state, and federal safety guidelines. From our contacts at the CDC, State Health Department, and Regional Health representation we know that there is a substantial confluence of evidence that we are only at the beginning of this epidemic and its impact on our area.  Our communications via daily briefings with health officials support our local decisions for increased COVID-19-specific safety parameters and implementation steps for our city and county.

We understand these parameters put strain on our citizens but the ramifications of inaction could result in catastrophic exhaustion of local hospitals and health resources. By lessening interactions and reducing public gatherings, we continue to push the directive of " flattening the curve" of influence this virus has on our citizens’ health and public emergency resources.

We likely will see increased measures in the days to come as this epidemic is far from over and the possible strongest impact is likely just over the horizon. I remain resolute in my support for these measures and thankful to our men and women in the health care industry serving on the frontlines of dealing with this very serious illness. We owe them all a great debt of gratitude.

May God continue to bless Kingsland!
