Message from the Mayor: COVID-19 Update for May 3, 2020
Citizens of Kingsland,
Tomorrow, the City of Kingsland will return to a modified-open status. Staff have made a number of changes in the ways in which they interact with the public. We have reopened the Welcome Center Payment window on a temporary basis to decrease direct face-to-face interactions. Over the past two months the Council elected to have online payment fees waived as well as extended late payment capabilities to citizens on water and sewer accounts.
With the reopening of our state, by order of Governor Kemp, we are resuming normal payment expectations and late fees. We understand the financial difficulties and limitations caused by employment issues during the COVID-19 shelter in place mandates and will not act on cutting off of water services until the next billing cycle. The Kingsland City Council members have graciously acted to extend the grace period until this time, but to do so any further would put too great a financial drain on our city finances. Please act to become current on your city accounts as soon as you are financially capable of doing so.
With regards to the opening of local businesses, restaurants, and the return to pre-COVID life- I ask that you all fully consider the past weeks and the fear that many of us endured. We have indeed experienced a great deal of discomfort and shared sacrifice to reach our current state of relative well-being. However, there are many in our community who have shouldered great personal and financial loss. Further, there are those in our neighborhoods and workplaces that have experienced the very real loss of loved ones from this virus. Please keep these people in your minds as you carry on your daily life and interactions. While national news at times will politicize events such as these, I ask that we all consider the lives of those lost in our community and continue to reach out physically and emotionally to support our fellow man.
Remember, we are not out of the woods yet. I encourage you to continue to practice social distancing as you are able and maintain increased sanitation and hygiene vigilance. Our citizens’ well-being lies in our collective hands. Let’s keep them clean!
Stay safe Kingsland,
Dr. C. Grayson Day, Jr
Mayor of Kingsland
